What you need
With Skype you can receive video calls on a desktop computer without installing any software as Skype will let you join a chat using your computer’s web browser.
However for smartphones and tablets you will need to download the appropriate app from either the App Store for Apple devices or from the Google Play store for Android devices.
If you are initiating the call you will also need to open a free Skype account and create your own username.
To get started
- Once you have Skype installed on you PC, Mac, Apple or Android make sure your friends and family know your Skype username, so they can call you.
- Make sure the sound on your device is not muted.
- You will hear an incoming call tone and the screen will show the name of the person trying to call you.
- Click on the onscreen buttons to Accept or Reject a call. If you accept the call you can choose whether you want it to be a video call or just audio by selecting the camera camera icon until it is shown as crossed out.
